FAQs
What does Esseoquattro mean?
Esseoquattro stands for Sorelle Ortolani Quattro (literally ‘Sisters Ortolani Four’). This name contains the family roots of this company, created and managed exactly by the Ortolani family.
The four sisters, Silvia, Roberta, Mara and Valeria, now make up the company’s management team, each of them heading a specific department.
This all-women-powered business, which in itself is already an exception on the Italian industrial scene, can count on the support and experience of a fifth woman – their mother Renata, who joined her husband, Giuseppe Ortolani, in founding the company.
Which bags can I use to warm food up in the oven?
The 40 g or 70 g Olà bags and the Olenoir bags are suitable for warming contained food up both in the conventional oven (up to 20′ at 150°) and in the microwave oven (up to 2′ at 600W).

May I lean food directly on your packaging?
Attention! In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practice for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food products, the printed side cannot come into direct contact with food.
What does Ideabrill mean? How is it made?
Ideabrill literally means ‘Idea Brillante’ (brilliant idea), because back when this product was created, there was no served counter fresh-preserving packaging in the Italian market yet.
In all honesty, at that time the words ‘Salva’ (preserve) and Freschezza (Freshness) had never been combined to create one single term.
Back when Giuseppe Ortolani invented Ideabrill, this wordplay spontaneously came to our mind – a real neologism!
Ideabrill is made of long-fibre pure cellulose kraft, combined with special processed film. This combination provides a barrier against external factors, which are responsible for early food deterioration, enabling thus contained food to keep its initial organoleptic characteristics longer.
How can Ideabrill be recycled?
Look inside the bag gussets of our products. You’ll find all useful information about proper product disposal.
How long can food shelf life be extended when using Ideabrill?
It depends on the food type and how fresh it is at the beginning.
The Original Ideabrill is packaging designed to inhibit the weathering agents responsible for premature food spoilage, such as light, UV rays, etc.
Studies conducted on several food types have highlighted the following:
– a significant growth inhibition of biogenic amines;
– a significant inhibition against the development of hexanal, a lipid oxidation marker;
– Food PH value maintenance;
– a reduction in the production of volatile fatty acids formed by lipolysis;
– better preservation of organoleptic characteristics over time.
However, the incidence of these benefits on single food types mostly depends on its own composition.
One of our customers, Prosciuttificio Sant’Ilario, let us know that its 36-month raw ham can be stored for up to 8 days thanks to Ideabrill.
We keep on suggesting you to test Ideabrill with your own product and see, or rather taste, the difference compared to a traditional wrapper.
Can the aluminium contained in Ideabrill stick to food?
No, because the contained aluminium powder percentage is located between the paper layer and the film, so it never comes into direct contact with your food.
It’s worth pointing out that Ideabrill’s silvery side is a metallised plastic film used to create a light barrier effect
Ideabrill is officially suitable for direct contact with all food types.
Can Ideabrill also be used to freeze food?
Of course, also because Ideabrill, unlike traditional packaging, doesn’t stick to food and therefore allows it to be removed very easily when defrosting.
Ideabrill has the advantage of being suitable for direct contact with all fresh food, enabling you to use it as you like without any worries.
Why don't you manufacture packaging from recycled paper?
Not all packaging is suitable for direct food contact.
In Italy, non-recycled paper with certain characteristics (fibre content > 75% and filler content < 10%) must be used for moist and fatty food types
How is a bag heat-sealed?
With an appropriate heat sealer, that is an easy-to-use and space-saving device.
Simply lower the sealing bar and hold it down until the red light goes out, and in less than a second you’ll have a perfectly heat-sealed bag.
Classic Freshpreserver Bags only take 0.75 seconds to be heat-sealed, whereas it only takes 1.16 seconds for Freshpreserver Bags Plus.
This allows food to be stored in a hygienic and protected way. You’ll find an explanation of how important heat-sealing can be for different food types and packaging here below:
– FRESHPRESERVER BAG FOR COLD CUTS – heat-sealing is essential; thanks to sealing, cold cuts stay fresh for 3-4 days.
– FRESHPRESERVER BAG WITH WIDOW FOR CHEESE: heat-sealing is recommended; thanks to heat-sealing, cheese smell remains inside the packaging and maximum hygiene is guaranteed.
– FRESHPRESERVER BAG PLUS FOR MEAT – heat-sealing is recommended; thanks to heat-sealing, meat blood and liquids remain inside the bag.
– FRESHPRESERVER BAG PLUS FOR FISH – heat-sealing is essential; thanks to sealing, fish liquids and odours remain trapped inside the bag.
– FRESHPRESERVER BAG WITH WINDOW FOR CHEESE – heat-sealing is recommended; thanks to heat-sealing, customers can put this packaging in their own bags in the bag in total hygiene.
At home, after cutting out the top of the bag, you can continue to use it by closing it with kitchen tongs.
– FRESCHPRESERVER BAG WITH WINDOW FOR MEAT PREPARATIONS – heat-sealing is recommended; maximum hygiene is guaranteed thanks to heat-sealing.

What is a Velin bag?
The Velin bag is made of a special long-fibre kraft, which guarantees good resistance even if it’s very lightweight.
This type of paper allows bread to ‘breathe’ and is therefore perfect to package even hot bread, for it keeps it as crisp and fragrant as freshly baked, since it prevents moisture formation in it.
In addition, the Velin bag, with its havana colour, immediately conveys an idea of craftsmanship and thus guarantees an excellent presentation of your product.
Does your company sell directly to shops?
Our company relies on a network of Distributors covering a large part of the country.
Thanks to them, we can reach individual stores, who can thus rely on their own Distributor for urgent deliveries or a few boxes.
There are still some – very limited – areas where we are not covered by wholesalers. Therefore, we interface directly with the retail outlets that contact us, identifying with them the best products for their needs and then proceeding with the production and dispatch of the required goods.
What does ‘PEFC-certified’ mean?
The PEFC Chain of Custody certificate ensures that suppliers we’ve chosen to work with guarantee full traceability of each paper batch and that these come from forests managed according to specific environmental and social sustainability requirements.
PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of National Forest Certification Schemes) is a real guarantee for the well-being of our planet’s green heritage, because it requires the highest sustainable forest management standards, without exception.
This means that forest management must take place with the aim of maintaining or improving biodiversity and supporting ecosystem needs.
Moreover, PEFC requires that tree cutting is done not only in compliance with the law, but also with natural growth rate, and requires that areas subject to cutting are reforested or, preferably, naturally regenerated and renewed.
PEFC even requires forest owners to replace chemicals with natural alternatives or at least to minimise their use.
Regarding the social sphere, PEFC expects forest management to take place in full protection of workers’ health and rights – as well as those of indigenous groups – and aims at increasing local employment.
Lastly, conformity audits of companies on the standard basis created by PEFC are conducted by an independent Certification Body (CB) in order to ensure maximum transparency and reliability.
What does ‘FSC®-certified’ mean?
FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) is an international non-profit organisation, whose members include NGOs and environmental groups (WWF, Greenpeace), social groups (National Aboriginal Forestry Association of Canada), forest owners, paper-processing industries such as Esseoquattro, large retail groups, researchers and technicians.
In total, there are almost 900 members, united by a single vision of environment friendliness.
The FSC® Chain of Custody certification identifies that products containing wood or a wood derivative, such as cellulose, come exclusively from forests that are managed properly and responsibly, according to strict environmental, social and economic standards, ensuring full traceability.
FSC® defined these standards with ten FSC® Principles and Criteria for Good Forest Stewardship, first published in 1994 and now in their fifth version in 2012, which are currently in force and valid throughout the world.
Based on these principles, this Organisation requires forest owners to comply with all applicable laws, regulations, treaties, conventions and international agreements ratified at national level.
From an environmental perspective, every FSC® forest management organisation is obliged to avoid, repair or mitigate negative impacts on ecosystems.
Lastly, from a socio-economic point of view, it’s obliged to preserve the welfare of their workers, as well as to recognise and protect the rights of indigenous groups and must contribute to maintaining or improving their welfare as well.
Are your items sold by unit or weight?
Our items are packaged both by unit and weight.
We package by weight, in boxes not exceeding 10 kg, traditional products, understood as both medium/heavy weighted paper and bags.
Unit packaging, on the other hand, concern special products, including the entire Ideabrill product family, paper and lighter weighted bags.
Are there any matching packaging lines among your products?
We’ve created matching lines enabling each store to have their own elegant and consistent image to make it easier for our customers.
Our customers can choose between the ‘Red Rose’, which is available on both Ideabrill items and paper & bags of the ‘Passion Wrapping’ line, the refined decorations of the ‘Haute Couture’ print, which is available on both Ideabrill and Olà, as well as the ‘Containing in style’ print, available on Ideabrill when it comes to generic items.
In addition to that, there’s a wide range of sectoral prints for the various sectors composing the fresh food industry – delicatessen, butchery, bakery, etc.
What's the difference between greaseproof and ‘normal’ paper?
The paper and greaseproof bags undergo a special treatment that makes them resistant to oil and grease, turning them into ideal packaging for any oily food type.
3 paper types are available: White Glisser, havana Olà and black Olenoir.
